Trapper hats

Well I decided to start another new hobbie/project.....

 

I walked in to the local pub wearing a had that my old man bought in Alaska about 30 years ago (Alaskan trapper hat made with Fox fur) and got quite a few compliments and maybe a couple laughs.  One of my buddies said he would love to have one, then later in the week my father inlaw said he would love to have one.

 

So I ended up buying an older sewing machine an upgrading the motor so it could sew leather.  I have 2 friends still in Alaska that are avid trappers.  I met one of them out in Pennsylvania at a show and I bought 3 fox furs from him that his 12 year old daughter trapped in Kodiak.  She is trapping to save up for a truck she wants to buy when she turns 16.  The Lynx pictured is being sent to me from Soldotna and I should have it next week.  It is not tanned and actually I found a tannery about 2 miles from my house and talked to the guy and he said doing a lynx is no issue.  http://www.tubariltd.com/

Stop up next week at the fur Auction up at Space Farms, Sunday March 19. Usually have fur from NJ, Northern states and sometimes other states. Bobcat, Coyote, Fisher, Mink, Muskrat, Beaver, Red and Gray Fox and other types. Anyone can come buy there. Buy one fur or hundreds. Don't matter.

Well I dont think I will be sewing it into the hat but I will keep it with the hat. The issue is what happens if I make a couple hats out of that fur and ear muffs?

Let me know when you start making them, I'll buy one. I was actually considering the same thing as a hobby, but I think it's more time and patience than I have to spare. I can barely get my shit together in time for deer season...
