I read the filings they had to make ahead of the merger pretty interesting if you have the time to read it.  I would be happy if they didn't merge.  The cultures are different at both companies.  There is a different feeling when you go to BP.  I personally like Cab's more.

Cabelas has always been positive.

I only have experiences with Cabelas in hamburg and Bass Pro in Florida, but for me Bass Pro blows cabelas totally out of the water, not even comparable. Better selection and MUCH cheaper. Couldn't believe the prices at cabelas when I stopped there last week after the Harrisburg show. Might be the first time in my life I left a sporting goods store empty handed

Cabelas has gotten expensive and is becoming a hoodie and North Face jacket store. Used to be able to get anything there.

Never buy anything at Cabelas at full price. (at least I don't). I always wait for their sales or use their coupons.

But I would never pay the full price of $150 for a pair (even with the lifetime warranty). But they seem to always go on sale for half off that (like they are now and for what I bought them at a couple years ago) - these are easily worth $75 to me now. I'm seriously considering buying a second pair while the sale is going on now - waterproof bibs with a lifetime warranty for $75. Dunno if I could find a better deal.

 

Anyway, I find this a lot - their regular prices are expensive, but things go on sale often and price drops are usually considerable. I just put things in my "wishlist" on their website and periodically scan it for when things go on sale.

Regardless of prices, an outing to the Hamburg store is always fun, especially your first time.  Even my wife likes going and she's not into the outdoors.
