Good job. I'm a beginner trapper. Can you give some details on how/why/where you placed your snares? I picked up a red today too. Pretty coolattachicon.gifIMG_4383.JPG

My woods are very open. Not much brush at all to funnel animals into the snare.

I caught 2 on a quad trail run (fox run tire tracks often)

1 was caught on a fallen tree that I noticed tracks on when it snowed

2 were caught in a patch of brushy grass with a run through it

Last 2 were caught in open woods.

I used my dog to see where she naturally ran everyday.. I'd watch her pick up a smell and paid attention to where she was smelling certain trees (I assume fox were marking them with urine) so after a few times she traveled the same route I threw snares on her run. Worked perfectly.

And lastly, the easiest way, fresh snow shoes the runs. Follow them, set in brushy areas, set where different trails merge together (pinch points)

Read the sign that is there. The animal will tell you where to catch it, you just have to be listening

Very nice Jay. I caught this one on the edge of a very large creek. I set a trail that looked like a travel route and used a bit of guiding and some duck under branches to keep the deer from setting the snares.

I have access to a pretty large farm with only a few hedgerows and some small wood lots. There aren't any particular spots that look good. No tall grass to speak of. I'm hoping for some snow to tell me the story. Maybe some fresh track in the mud since the rain cleared out. At this point, I'm setting trails thru the woodlots near piles of brush. I figure there must be rabbits in there so there's probably Fox. Coyote are in the area so I'm hoping they'll make an appearance . Thanks for the info

Duck under sticks will catch more deer than they deter. Don't use them at all
