Thermos

So, I wanted a new thermos for hot beverages, picked up these 4 at Cabelas, all about the same size and price, $30ish. At room temp I filled all 4 to the top with hot tap water, 115F, then laid them on their side on the bottom shelf of fridge. Took them out after an hour, 16oz Stanley got rejected immediately for leaking, 18oz Yeti,(Nepalese for "hot air") dropped 5F, and the 2 Thermos brand were even at 2F down. Poured 6oz out of each one and put back in fridge. Took temp reading, using meat thermometer, two more times an hour apart and the 2 Thermos stayed exactly even, while the Yeti dropped like a rock.

The smaller Thermos, at 16oz, is probably the best, but, I rejected it because it ends up in 3 pieces, (body, stopper, and cup), everytime you want a sip. The bigger Thermos is 24oz, substantially larger, but, it has a really ingenious leakproof cap that flips open revealing a sipper type of pouring spout, which I'm thinking will suit a guy better when on stand.

Thats is interesting, I have a Stanley and Yeti. The Yeti holds temp better then my Stanley. I never did the experiment, but took both on all day sits during fall bow and my coffee (to me) was a lot hotter in the Yeti. (Only took the Stanley because I forgot to wash my Yeti).

I have 2 older Stanleys, the widemouth one has a typical one piece stopper and it will keep tomato soup so hot for hours that it is difficult to sip out of. The other one has a 2 piece stopper designed to pour thru with just a half twist or so of the inner part, and it sucks, my swiss miss was lukewarm 2 hours after making it with boiling water. After I did all this it occurred to me that I might have been able to buy just the conventional stopper!!!

I have the silver Thermos (Nissan, I think it's referred to as) in a larger size.  I'd argue that it's more 2-piece than three since you only need to loosen the stopper to get it to pour, but I do agree with your assessment that it might not be the best for a tree stand.  I use it in my blind, and it's kept tea scorching hot for about 8 hours.  The design is great for a pack since it's a smooth cylinder and pretty much guaranteed not to leak.

What model # is the other Thermos?  Looks like a decent all-in-one solution, and I'd like to check it out.

Sapere aude.

Audeamus.

When you cannot measure, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory.

Part of my collection comprises of 2 Thermos 40 0z camoed w/strap for hanging and 2 Cabala's bullets green matte, 1 16 0z and 1 32. Always hot when I needed them and if to early they were too hot and had to put the cup in the snow to cool. The 40 oz used for all day sits w/coffee, one only used once as it was for my son. The 32 oz bullet was for Hot Chocolate the 16 for Cream of mushroom soup. They were for half day sits. The night before I would fill them with boiling water. Upon getting up I would boil another pot and replace while making breakfast ,soup and coffee or chocolate. Bring to a boil and then fill. Never had a problem, even with over a foot of snow on the ground. Ps always kept them in my pack to keep my sandwiches from freezing solid. also kept sandwiches in my inside pockets. As far as the 16 oz wide mouth for soup ,my uses one for lunch at school with no problems but she's indoors.

Ahhh I see what you mean about the Nissan stopper. That is the one I went there to get. The one I choose is the sk4000.

I really like this one. No metal on outside to bang on tree stand and it floats. I think the vaccum set up plas the added plastic combined work very well but have not done a temperature test. But of course they are now discontinued!!  I have an old version, this version and another of these the wife has. (Which I will steal when I lose mine. :)
