Rotating firewood days (rotating labor share)

Recommended Posts

I had an idea for later this winter, whereby several members rotate to each others woodcutting sites for a 6-8 hour work session.  A few guys cutting, a few guys transporting wood to the splitter, a few guys splitting and stacking.

i.e. - one day we go to member "A", another weekend we go to member "B", etc...  Basically a just a joint workload sharing. I would think with the right setup and equipment, each participating member of the "Lumberjack consortium" could get 3-4 cords of wood cut split and stacked, per session. (possibly more?)

For example, I have a 20" Stihl chainsaw, a 650 CanAm quad, an all-terrain U-TRAX articulating axle trailer capable of hauling over 1,500 lbs of wood, splitting mauls and a nice Troy-Built  tilting 25-ton hydraulic splitter.    Just me cutting alone, one guy running the quad and two guys on the splitter could make a lot of hay. (could even rotate tasks so we get to work every muscle group as well)

The session would ideally end with a bonfire, beers and grilled venison sandwiches to be provided by the host of the day.

Just a thought - could be fun and rather productive.   I do about 6 cords a year by myself, but it usually involves a few all day cutting sessions, followed by a few all day transporting sessions, followed by me getting backed up and splitting well into April to finish my annual quota.

Rusty loves cutting and splitting wood.  Just ask him to come over, then set up chairs, cook venison, open beers and eat venison while you watch Rusty do his thing.

hard to argue that your idea doesn't trump mine.  I might even light a cigar in that case.

I'll make sure that my horseshoe pits are in good shape. I need to re-do them in the spring. That gives Rusty plenty of time to grow his mullet in

Horseshoes on the frozen turf should add a little extra bounce.  If Rusty can grow that mullet back in, he can always comb it over the front ala "Trump Style"... It's a win/win.

Nothing gives me more joy than turning trees into firewood.  I'm already set for next year so we can skip my house but I would be very happy to come play at your house.

As a side note, you have to have hair to grow a mullet and I've been bald for 25 years so don't get your hopes up.
