ICE REPORT

Recommended Posts

Without Spot burning - with some generality, would like to know what areas of state are showing some safe ice or actually seeing folks out on it fishing.

I know there have been some already in the Byram area (without providing specific details).  Not sure the weather will sustain it through the new year, this often happens where we get a polar vortex end of fall to put about 2-4" on the lakes and then the thaw sets in around Christmas.

Is identifying a lake I saw guys fishing on as I drove by spot burning?  It's like saying I saw people fishing the Flatbrook or that I had success fishing the South Branch of the Raritan last weekend.  Not like you are identifying specific coves or private lakes.

I would think not - LOL.  I did this on NJH last year and some got real "butt hurt" about spot burning...

I know.  Reason I even brought it up.  A friend at the time said he was ice fishing on a lake and someone on here had asked if there was safe ice in Morris County yet.  I mentioned that there was ice on the one HUGE lake (which is visible from the highway as it was) and like you said, apparently I gave away their secret spot.

Having said that Budd Lake and Aeroflux usually get fishable ice pretty quickly from what I've heard and saw.

It's been well below 32 degrees here in western Morris county for days. It just hit 32 now and will be above freezing today, but nighttime temps are well below 32. Hopefully the lakes are forming a good layer of ice so we can have a decent icefishing season this winter
