12/9/16 - Fee Waived for Venison Donation Program

Recommended Posts

So what everyone is saying is that, a hunter who wants to help the hungry should also pay for them to eat it.? Somehow I'm not getting your replies right or not putting mine across correctly. This has nothing to do about shooting more deer. Some guys just want the racks , I'm a meat hunter and butcher my own so the fee has never affected me , just the thought about someone trying to do good. To each their own opinions.

I always thought the minimal fee paid by the hunter went to help the cost of the butcher. They still have to be paid something for their time and without hunters helping by "donating" part of the fee to the program, as well as the meat, the program will run out of money much quicker. The HHH program is a great program that seems to struggle for funding, at least it did when I was involved. The fee by hunters donating was just another way to help with that, at least I thought it was. No one is getting rich off this but when hunters kill multiple deer and just dump them off at the butcher, without helping offset the cost, it adds up quick. And there are plenty of people who do kill deer just to kill them, and then dump them off, pay $10.00 and wash their hands of them. It's convenient.

Your donation to HHH should be seen as the deer and $10.00 to help process it. The money is part of the donation, not a penalty for donating.

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation UNDER GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

I always thought the fee years ago was $60.  $10 is nothing.  But if it's charity I would think HHH could find butchers to donate their time as the hunters do  .   Shooting deer to just drop them off is just wrong, unless it's a cull.  Better than just letting them rot.  I've only ever shot what I would eat or share with friends. I don't have the $ to pay someone to butcher my deer so I learned. To me it's part of the hunt.  Guess I was brought up on the wrong side of town. But I do own an antique silver spoon.

Make the farmers who use depredation permits pick up the deer to feed the hungry. They can offset the cost by taking some of the money from the bagged corn they sell to pay for it. Its used to feed the deer anyway. Very hypocritical of them, no?
