Need advice on new hunting clothes

Recommended Posts

I use these:

Keeps me warm and dry.  I can sit in a snowbank without an issue.  They also have a coverall that's supposed to be awesome.

It's a Carhartt,  you can't go wrong with them.

Sapere aude.

Audeamus.

When you cannot measure, your knowledge is meager and unsatisfactory.

Cabelas MT050 clothes are very nice. I have their 7-in-one parka - very warm and tons of pockets :) - I highly recommend it. This one:

(note: I did NOT pay $420 for it! I got it on sale for like $250 last year, after coupons and sales prices and such - they are on sale now I see - I would never pay 400 for a parka no matter how nice).

I also love the 10-point bibs - and they are on sale now, almost half off normal price (I never buy their clothes at full price - its Christmas sales like these that I take advantage of):

These prices are still high - but Cabelas branded clothes have lifetime warranty, so I'll pay a little extra knowing if a seam goes bad or a zipper breaks I can get it replaced.

I'm a huge fan of Day One Camo.

Their parka is the warmest I've ever worn, and all fleece so it's super quiet!

The Day One bibs are very nice/warm as well, but I've been wearing the Cabela's Elite Fleece bibs which have a waterproofing layer (better when sitting on wet seats, wet ground, kneeling on wet ground, etc).

Unfortunately they don't appear to make them anymore, don't know why they are awesome!

Speaking of layers, my favorite garment has to be a fleece turtleneck to keep that wind off your neck!

The Gray Wolf Woolen turtleneck is awesome as a layer under a parka for really cold days or even as an outer layer (quiet) on the cooler fall days!

What are you guys using for base layer thermals nowadays?  I could use a replacement set at some point...mine are many years old and starting to tear/wear through.

I wear Under Armour 4.0 - got a great price on them last year. Very warm.

I second what BowhunterNJ said. I ordered bibs and a parka from Day One last year and it is really nice stuff. Custom made for you and the owner is a hell of a nice guy. The only other company I would consider is Gray Wolf Woolens. You won't be sorry with gear from either company.

I went with the ASAT pattern. Simple and super effective

underlayers are the Cabelas MTP ... I like the green (the cold weather) and the brown (the polar weight). The blue ones are lightweight and for cool weather, but not cold. These always go on sale - right now they are about half off. There is no way they are worth the full price.

I also bought the Cabelas E.C.W.C.S. Polar Weight top and bottoms. They are more expensive. For the price, you get more for your money buying the MTPs when they go on sale. The ECWCS supposedly wick sweat better, though.

if you cant spend the money , do it right Raven wear out of Canada , go to a tailor and get measured . send them the measurements , do not  add any inches on for anything they do it all.  you get the wool jackets with a wind blocking inside with a fleece lining is awesome , the bowmans jacket comes with a tail hanging off the back for when you are sitting and elastic in the sleeve....you will have these cloths forever.
