WMA Maps on Google

Recommended Posts

Someone, years ago, took the time to put the maps up along with safe zones on Google Maps (I think it was actually Google Earth).  But they were never maintained and are most likely out of date.  I think it was for a couple of WMAs, not all of them.

You can download a file from that link that will open up Google Earth and show you open spaces.  It's from 2012, so it's most likely out of date.

Thread I found it on:  https://forums.njpinebarrens.com/threads/nj-wma-maps.6937/

You owe me $5 for doing a Google search for you.

I found both of those sites too, plus a couple of others, but they aren't the ones that I remember.

This is the link to the topic where the WMA maps site was located. I tired accessing it a few weeks ago but I was blocked from viewing it, and now it looks like the domain name is up for sale. Don't know what happened but it was a great resource that looks like is now gone.

OK, I see it. Click on "Turkey Zones" and pick a zone. Then scroll to the bottom and you'll see all the WMA maps that are in that zone. For example:

https://sites.google.com/site/njhuntingmaps/home/zone-14t

There should be a separate page with all the WMAs on one page, but its still pretty cool. I remember just going to each zone and downloading all the WMA maps. These are in a format where you can put them right on a Garmin GPS or view them on Google earth.

I took the WMA and the Land Trust sites down because I haven't had the time to update or maintain them. The Tax Maps I was using to find the boarders are off a bit which caused my maps to be off. Also, some of the WMAs have increased in size from the ones I show.

For instance, many of the land Trust maps boundaries are off from NJDEP website

If everyone wants I'll keep them up even if their outdated to give one an idea of the boundaries.

NJDEP Fish & Wildlife has two pages that show the WMA.

1. Wildlife Management Areas

2. Wildlife Management Area Road Maps

My "Handle" is not my aim, I'm paralyzed as a C 4-5 quadriplegic.

I think they are still very helpful. Many of these WMAs haven't changed and the maps are still useful. When in doubt, people should just get a map from the NJ DFW website and compare with the Google Map kmz if they want to know if its out of date.

Crippleshot - you should put them back, just put a big flashing disclaimer saying "These are as of Month, Year and may be out of date."
