Breaking in a new retriever- a Thanksgiving hunt

What to do when you never force broke your dog to retrieve? The answer is simple, you break in a new retriever. Here is TroutandBucks going into the nasty briar bushes to get a cock bird we teamed up on after a nice point from my Brittany. There didn't seem to be nearly as many birds out this year, but I guess they've shifted more to southern New Jersey which is only fair. We enjoyed some time up at Whittingham early this morning and now we're back home to get ready for Thanksgiving. Let's just say he makes a better hunter than retriever.

 

 

 

 

We had three solid points. First bird was a hen up in a tree and by the time she flushed we didn't get a shot. Second point turned out to be a bird that had just been killed by an owl or hawk as the head was missing, but the bird was still warm. The third point was this cock bird which we both shot at the same time.

The area of whitingham I hunted only about 3 birds shot, barely any stocked at all. Sucked big time, I've notice the lack of left overs too, I'm done with buying stamps.

Yup went to Black River with the dog to day got one out of the tree first bird of the year should have at least 6 to 8 .I any seen three bird . I think I will turn the new puppy in to a trapping dog . happy thanksgiving

What area of whittingham did you hunt? Today I was out with 4 other guys and no dogs we got a 5 man limit in under 25min
