A week North

Recommended Posts

Wasn't sure I'd get up there this year. My heart really wasn't into it this year. But my 12 year old got a taste last year and he wanted to go desperately. I made a scouting run up in mid October and got some bad news on my youngest son's health so rushed home and got his situation squared away. He recovered from surgery pretty well so at the last moment my oldest son and I made the decision to make the run.

Always a good time. No canines this trip behind the farmhouse this year but we did our normal water line. We rested a few areas we hit the last couple years and left beavs in every house we did trap. I'd guess we ran no more than 20 traps for beaver and otter. So I'd guess we did ok for 6 trap checks. He already said he can't wait for next season.

Heavy rain Tuesday night got water critters moving. Yesterday were all bigs and a couple misses, but the bigs were big!

One of the biggest I've caught. He is ridiculous.

So I'll make another run up for a night or two in December to get CITES tags for the otter and catch a couple more. I marked set locations for under ice.

Our trip this year corresponded with deer season. We were a week later than usual. We saw some great deer checked in. Opening day alone they had 5 over 200 pounds dressed. The mild winter seemed to be kind on those mountain deer. This was by no means the biggest, I just helped load him into the truck so I snapped a pic before we left. He was only 190. Biggest checked in was the second day at 213. They are impressive for sure.
