  1. Past hour
  2. Found my first Spring Turkey Permit. Unfilled of course. 2 tags still in the back in the above pic.
  3. I retired when Covid hit. I was 58. Then I had great job offers so I went back to work in April of 2023. Still at it, keeping a very stress free job with great pay but there are days I regrade going back. I’m guessing I’ll do +_ 2 more years and retire for goo. My line of work changed so much. It used to run on diesel, now on paperwork. The government, who I usually work for, reached incredible level of incompetence and stupidity and that’s very hard to deal with when you are used to being focused on getting things done.
  4. With the life expectancy of men at 73 years old, and women at 81, enjoy life to its fullest now. Retire at the first possible chance.
  5. Bargain, Most are $105+ & $50+ for kids depending on the species
  6. My first turkey hunt was in zone 2 in 2014 and we had Gobblers every where abd ended up doubling with my buddy who brought me
  7. Pretty much the same. Lost the few farms I had access to turkey hunt. Life got in the way and kind of gave up hunting for turkey in NY. I hunt NJ now but I’m hoping to get back to look around in NY for some birds. Miss the different scenery.
  8. Every time you either don't agree or don't have an answer you say off topic. You brought up cost well him filling his boat with gas is a cost associated with fishing which is absolutely on topic
  9. Miss them days. 93 to 03 tagged out in ny. Then spotty since. I didn’t hunt much but a few days season if at all after 07. Life got in the way. Lol Wife house dog new job kid. Plus bird numbers declined usually hunted open day or opening weekend. If I had action I would try and get back out. If not I usually didn’t bother. I hunted more in 2020 that I did in the 5 prior seasons for sure.
  10. I'm in the same boat here. Still waiting on a 2021 buck. I was aware there would be delays because of covid. I got a text from my taxidermist last august saying he would be starting mine that evening. I text earlier this month and never got a response. I looked him up on Facebook and last fall he was apologizing to clients for being so far behind. Still blaming it on supply shortages from the pandemic. A simple return text would ease my mind.
  11. And now NJ is raising Gas by 2 cents a year for 5 Years Guess that means marine gas will go up 10 cents. This all would be serious if not for being hilarious, 2 Cents, EV owners You will not be left out, for you, a yearly Flat Tax, ( Fee ) Maybe those E Outboards may become popular, with a Sea Tow following.
  12. sounds like a job for @Tarhunt
  13. I retired, then after 19 months, I went back to work part time. But I'm so very lucky in that I can do independent consulting, on my terms. Though I'm starting to have little grandkids now and I watch them and stuff, when you do something that you truly enjoy for 41 years after college and the Army ... you miss it when it's gone. Kinda strangely. Have to teach the kids they need work hard and find that sweet-spot job where you enjoy your work, but also that's a bullet proof profession and you can earn a decent living. It absolutely can still be done in America.
  14. simple answer - because it's FUN, exciting at times, challenging and something that can be enjoyed by yourself or with friends and family. Getting food out of it is just an added bonus. ask yourself why many will thousands of dollars on a Marlin charter, for the shot at one big fish all day or possibly nothing at all, when you know going into it, there will be at best a pic or video, and a catch and release? Same could be said for those that target tarpon, permit and bonefish..... Not table fare - why bother? Why do any of this at all? Frankly surprised that any real outdoor sportsman would even ask this question.
  15. Today
  16. I believe our Kids adapt a lot of habits from their Parents. It could be anything from alcohol consumption to finances. I am glad to see my Kids adopted the same habits as my Wife and I. We never consumed alcohol in large amounts and none of them do. We never bought an extremely large home or high end vehicles. We didn't have years of big car payments or two mortgages. We displayed a lifestyle that was reasonable for our income. We always preached keeping credit card debt low and they do the same. Our Kids usually follow our leads. They don't need direct knowledge of our finances. They can sense it by the lack of or presence of tensions in the home. If we raise them responsibly, they should be able to navigate this world responsibly. But there are never any guarantees.
  17. Good deal, hopefully it produces some shooters before they build.
  18. That’s exactly what I thought. I had asked a few friends and they didn’t remember that. I thought it was still in effect in early 90’s. I use to hunt Columbia county mostly and there were turkeys everywhere compared to Delaware county Thanks
  19. I could buy enough fish to eat for a year or two with how much $ it takes to fill the tank on my boat once.
  20. Seems to me that this Guy wants to turn SS into a complete disability system. If you are capable of working, you work. If not able, you collect.
  21. My neighbor told me head boats are $95? Cost him like $165 to take his kid fishing! Wowzer!
  22. Wow ... exciting few minutes there!
  23. Zipper

    Just my luck

Maybe this is what bit you. Feel better Vito. Speedy recovery!
  24. I fish almost everyday of late spring through early fall, ive almost never kept a fish to eat, I just love to fish
  25. Why bother? Because you're fishing. If you're gonna measure or judge something based on what's not in your cooler, you're doing it wrong. Get out there enjoy yourself. Go read codaboys thread titled "osprey". He got that experience because he's fishing. It's a day he'll never forget.... And he caught zero fish.
