  2. Hunting Turkeys with Dogs is a new discovery for me. I had never heard of it before today. I looked up the NJ regs and it says its legal in the fall. I dont turkey hunt, and dont have a dog. Just thought this was interesting. How is it done, the dog breaks up the flocks, they you hope the scattered birds will come back to where you flushed them? Anyone on here using a dog for turkeys?
  3. They can definitely live on one lung. People also don't factor in that the lungs inflate and deflate as the deer is breathing. They change size because of this and taper off the further you go back in the cavity.
  4. 870 3” Carlson choke Winchester LB #5

  8. Congratulations nice buck I'm not surprised, not the first time I heard this, yes they can live/survive on one lung.Whitetails are tough SOB's!!!
  9. One lung was gel, the other nicked top. Not survival hit.
  10. I see ya remembered the paddle(lol) an got the yak out.Atta boy Bob
  11. I dont think this has been discussed for a while but now the opinions seem to have shifted somewhat. I shot this buck a years ago in late Oct. and the buck had fairly fresh broadhead pass thru in "vital area" below the spine, confirmed by butchering the deer. Deer acted fine. I pole axed him straight down he died within 50 yards quickly. Notice the old wound in pic seemed like fairly fresh. Notice the healed broadhead wound both sides of deer. First pic is entry second is exit 3-4 inches lower. Looks completely fatal. so deadzone?

  18. False casting does one of two things. First and foremost, it allows casters to get line out for casts requiring more than a basic roll cast. Second, it allows you to get your timing correct before you toss your fly above a rising fish. The latter is irrelevant in saltwater. Most fly anglers make WAY TOO MANY false casts. Even if you have a standard 9 foot rod in the 8-10 weight range, two back casts should be all you need to get line out and load the rod to punch the line forward. Practice that speed up to hard stop which is what loads the rod. And learn the double haul if using a one hand rod. That is critical for the distance you often need from the beach.
  19. Winchester 1300. Light, cheap, accurate, many rounds never failed me..
  20. Not sure about a muddler minnow. I mostly use Deceivers and Clousers which are both streamers. For Albies and when rainfish are the bait of choice, I use epoxy flies like a Surf Candy. When adult bunker are in, huge streamers to imitate them. Saltwater is much less complicated than trout. We have bunker (adult and peanut), rainfish, sand eels, and mullet, and those make up the bulk of your fly imitations unless you hit a cinder worm hatch or are in a boat and fish are targeting squid.
  21. Thank you, PedoJoe. I hope we'll all remember this in November.
