  2. My wife was in her mid 20s when she trapped me 🤣🤣🤣
  3. Just to clarify, these aren't ads. They are just a reporting feed I bring in to provide the daily fishing reports from local charters and head boats so the fishermen/women on here are in the "know" of the latest. But I do get how for someone not interested in them, they can be too much or uninteresting. Fortunately, as you mentioned there is the ability to block/hide certain forums or build a custom Activity Stream that only has the content you're interested in
  4. That's what I do too, but some people benefit from having things blocked.
  5. Just read a report by DEC in ny written in 1998 that stated hens lay on avg 10 to 12 eggs. The hens sit on the eggs for 28 days. Due to. Weather and predators that within 60 days from the first egg layed up to 70 percent won’t survive. even 25 years ago the number of birds making it alive one month was low. That rate of survival must be way lower today
  6. I would imagine skunks and opposum eats up some eggs to. gota trap everything But ok so let’s say we get rid of some egg stealers. Hawks and owls do some serious damage to chicks. crows to. My dad saw them over a spam of a few days wipe out an entire clutch of baby geese but hey guess we gota start somewhere. Again it comes back to great habitat

Awesome mid range hunting caliber. I hunt in PA special regs area, used to shotgun only. I just harvested a doe last week, Crop damage permits. I took 75 yard quarter to facing shot. Pretty much bang and flop. She ran only few feet and was dead. I am hunting with Hornaday Whitetail 170 grain Ammo. Congrats on winning a fine rifle!
  8. Smart move tuck Congrats that’s my wife and brothers plan. shame is a lot can happen to a plan My dad always said things are always fine till you get sick Bushden. Totally agree. Give them the tools to do it on their own She knows their might be a safety net for her but how big is hard to tell. Things can happen I’d also like to consider relocating to someplace less expensive. But again. If my kids here and grandkids are here we won’t be moving away To much uncertainty Only thing for sure is we all don’t live for ever
  9. Today
  10. I always say I am gonna sign up for the class. Truly only interested in trapping coyotes..
  11. Good luck i’m not to familiar with the guys who teach trappers ed but I hear there a hell of a team over there. I think there’s even a few younger guys but not sure
  12. It’s very hard to give a pelt away unless it’s a good coyote or fox I can almost promise that unless you skin and flesh a raccoon 99% of guys will tell you they don’t want it
  13. You are definitely not alone in this view. you can’t give coons away. and it’s not worth the work for the 3 dollars. But it’s getting to the point where the answer is gonna have to be trap them and get rid of them
  14. It's not hard to find someone to give a whole carcass or pelt to. Not doing so is just lazy and wasting one resource to protect another. And I use both resources extensively, not taking sides for either That's like moving a bucket of water from the deep end of a pool to the shallow end and saying your reducing the water level.
  15. I am signed up for trapping course next month. Will be 55 soon but my daughters, 15 & 17 are also signed up. Late to the game for me but hopefully it sticks for them. Will be looking for all the help and advice I can get from here on out.
  16. I am putting my paperwork in tomorrow for retirement from public education. Turn 55 in May and will be out in June after 28 years. Not done teaching so I already signed a contract to teach in a private school. Pay cut on paper but when I add my retirement check in it is a big jump for me. Still love what I am doing and the coaching is like an extra part time job. Plenty of time for hunting and family time and still money to be made. Very good discussion and to hear others perspective.
  17. I assume the average age of a trapper is probably in there 50’s or even higher. To the few guys on this site that teach the trapper’s education class and are apart of NJ Trappers association is there any young blood in this sport that traps? I know a few kids 18-20 that trap a raccoon or a fox here or there but nothing like when we were younger
  18. And when guys say "I trapped a bunch of coons" or "I trapped some yote", you will have people say, "What did you do with it? Did you waste the resource?" If you don't have the equipment/space/time to put up the fur, how do you answer that other than say, "Oh, sorry. I won't do that again. Never mind." ?? I'll be honest, that's one reason I don't ... If I take a coon, is it ethical to say, "Well, I am trapping them just to lower the numbers, and will just leave them for nature to clean up?"
  19. Last night, the Georgia Legislature adjourned sine die from its 2024 legislative session. This session, the legislature passed House Bill 1018, which prohibits the use of firearm/ammunition specific merchant category codes by payment processors. View the full article
  20. How long are we gonna beat on this dead horse. If you really wanna make a difference... Do Something . Become A Trapper !
  21. Some people "need" to retire but can't. Some people "can" retire but don't. It's the people that can no longer work (physically) but have to in order to live is the problem. That's where SS helps. It may make the difference between being able to retire or continuing to ruin your body and shorten your life or quality of life. There are all kinds of negative consequences for people working into their 70's and 80"s. They are displacing a younger person from getting that job. If you can afford to retire, you should. It only benefits the greater society. But, I know, who cares about that.
  22. I know I am going to take some heat over this response but here goes. I think your idea is admirable and shows great love for you daughter but I do not agree you should live your life so you can hand here all your assets when you die. It has always been my philosophy to raise my children to be self sufficient and the only way In my opinion that can be done is not hand them everything they might want. Now I am not saying dont help them because everyone needs help once in a while and that giving that help is enjoyable for you and your children. If you do it to often they do not learn the lessons you learned from your hard work. You risk them becoming dependent upon Dad for all their lives and when the day comes for dad to leave this earth, which surprisingly may come at any age not just after retirement, they may find themselves penny less and without the skills to take care of themselves because maybe dad dies in his early years after a illness that financially drains his resources leaving his children no cash just memories and I myself would like those memories to be of a relationship of love and learning how to stand on their own. Then when the days comes that you go if you do have a nice pot of gold to leave them they and their children can not only have some financial help with their childrens college or weddings etc and fond memories of a hard working Dad that taught them how to take care of themselves in a very unstable world. I followed those words of advice all my life. My father was a mason born of immigrants that broke his butt all his life and left little but what he did leave was a legacy of hard work and love of family and an example of how to take care of ones self and not depend on anyone and that was much better than all the money in the world.
  23. My favorite saying: "Enjoy life, it has an expiration date". I'm not advocating for irresponsibility. If you enjoy your job and want to keep working, then keep doing it. It's nice to have choices. Some people don't.
