Fly fishing tonight/socks and sandals

Met up with nmco2 and another friend tonight to go for trout with the fly rods at the Paulinskill near Veteran's Field in Stillwater.

Lost one on a Copper John, caught one on a Prince Nymph. Then remembered why I have not gone so much with the fly rod. Got 2 epic tangles, 1st one in itself with the tippit, second one in a tree above me...Took way too much time trying to untangle the knots rather than cut it and start again...After getting everything squared away 30 minutes later, we decided to move downstream as fishing was slow in the holes...

Watching nmc02 splash into the stream and clog forward, I assumed (like an ass) that the bottom was sandy based on fast he was moving. Nooooooooo, I proceeded to take a header and do a swan dive right in slipping on the first rock. I think it was actually funny based on how much nmc02 was laughing.......Fished some more until I decided to switch to a spinner because I ran out of the little patience I had especially being soaked..It actually felt good so I took off my waders dumped the water out and fished the rest of the night in socks and sandals. Proceeded to hit one after another with a copper Panther martin and caught and released a bunch.....A guy across the stream (at Pond Brook now) said the state stocked it today along with the Paulinskill...He said the guy stocking also stocked "eels." I asked if he was sure and said the guy throwing in the nets of trout also walked several buckets of eels into the water. I have never heard of eels being stocked in any stream up north before....

I kept my limit and will add them to the smoked trout going to Jack's this summer. Fly fishing is without a doubt an art that takes one HUGE thing above anything else....Patience!  One day I will get there, just not this day, lol. Great fishing with nmc02 who definitely knows what he is doing when it comes to the fly rod.

After getting back to the cars, I asked nmc02 if he had on something like "cleats or korkers" on his waders when I walked in as fast as him and fell on my ass taking a bath...He says "of course I do!!"

Can't make this stuff up, lmao!

Sounds like a great time. Sorry Lou, but I would have died to see you fall in the water, must have been hysterical! I've done it MANY times myself

LMAO! If I wasn't cursing him out I would have heard him cackling like a hyena

Also it was pretty funny Ronnie...........

The important thing when you go down is not to loose your bearing. Kind of swim around for a minute like you meant to do it, then come to shore and immediately begin fishing like nothing happened. ;) Sounds like you had some fun  My kids will never let me  forget when I made a huge splash as we were fishing from our boat, hitting the water with my back, fishing rod in hand.  As they starred in horror,   I calmly climbed back into the boat and said, " that cooled me off nicely", they still claim I fell in. ;)
